My Story

For many years I struggled with digestive distress and food and sugar addictions. It wasn't until I discovered the healing power of plant-based, or vegan, nutrition that things started to change.

My transition was a slow one. It took me about 15 years to get to eating a full plant-based vegan diet. I started by cutting out red meat because it was giving me the most digestive distress. I will never forget the day I finally made the decision to cut out red meat. I had been reading the book, “Eat Right For Your Blood Type” and discovered that my blood type, type A, fared better on a vegetarian diet so I was already starting to consider making the switch but still didn’t feel I knew enough to do it. It was my mother’s birthday about 20 years ago when I stuffed my face full of beef ribs. Soon after than my stomach was screaming in pain and I knew my digestive system couldn’t handle the meat. So, taking the book’s advice I began by cutting out beef and pork and slowly started to feel better. Although I still loved turkey at Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner I soon cut out poultry and again noticed improvement in my digestive system.

Even though I had started to see improvement in my digestion I still had stomach pains after eating certain foods. The biggest culprit was dairy. The hardest thing for me to give up was cheese until one day I realized it was the major cause of my digestive problems. I quickly learned how to replace my favourite dairy foods with plant-based options and haven't looked back since.

I wanted to learn more about how to make the switch in a healthy way so I hired a raw-vegan coach and worked with a raw-vegan naturopath. With their guidance I cut out the last of the animal products I was eating, which was fish and eggs. One of my favourite meals was salmon; however, the more I learned about the benefits of eating a plant-based diet the easier it became to let it go.

I learned so much, was feeling so much better and was inspired by my coaches that I decided to get a raw food nutritionist and chef certification so I could help others make the switch. Since then I have written a cookbook called, The Magic of Living Nutrition, many blogs and courses soon to come.

Over the years people have asked me if being vegan is hard. At the beginning it was because I was not confident in my reasons for wanting to go vegan. As I learned more and more about the animal industry and the torture these creatures endure so humans can use their bodies for food, clothing and other uses and how the agricultural industry is responsible for destruction of the environment my reason why became stronger and stronger. Now, I couldn't imagine my life any other way.

That is why I have made is my mission to help others make the transition to a healthy, whole-food, plant-based vegan lifestyle and support leaders who want to join this great mission to inspire healthy living around the world.
