What Is Wellness?
Wellness is a vast topic that is often confusing to people; likely because so many people are not living in a state of wellness.
Wellness is defined as the state or condition of being in good physical and mental health. To be well is a continuous choice that you must make everyday so that you may achieve a healthy balance between the mind, body and soul.
To start living a life of wellness begin to change your interactions with the world. These interactions will leave you feeling a greater sense of self-worth, confidence and fulfillment.
Some suggestions on how to gain better mental health include:
Talk to at least one new person everyday
Ask more questions and get to know someone a little better
Give someone a smile for no reason at all; yeah they may think you’re nuts but you may also make their day
Perform a random act of kindness
Give without expecting anything in return; also called karma yoga
Read something inspiring everyday
Learn something new
Laugh and have more fun
Meditate and connect with your inner self
With better mental health we gain a sense of peace, happiness, fulfillment and love for ourselves and others.
Some suggestions on how to gain better physical health include:
Do at least 30 minutes of cardiovascular activity 3-5 days per week
Work out your muscles by doing some sort of resistance training 2-4 times per week
Stretch daily
Develop a regular yoga practice
Eat whole, plant-based foods
Drink at least 2 litres of water per day; more if you are active
Get at least 8 hours of sleep a night
When we take care of our physical health we achieve a healthy weight, reduce the risk of disease, reduce stress, activities of daily living happen with ease, gain strength, endurance and many other health benefits.
Physical and mental health usually happen in tandem. When you take care of your physical body, your mental health is improved and when you take care of your mental health you are usually more inclined to take care of your physical body.
This powerful combination of physical and mental health will allow you to enhance your self-awareness, build you self-confidence and self-esteem. You will notice a spring in your step and fall in love with your mind and body as you place your focus on a holistic approach to wellness.
Until next time...
Namaste.
