The Gift of FITNESS

WELCOME to Day 7 of the 12-Days of Holiday Joy! Each day I will share with you valuable health, fitness, nutrition and/or wellness information and give lucky winners of the draw an amazing gift!

Today I give you the gift of FITNESS!

The American College of Sports Medicine suggests, for optimal health, that every adult should get at least 150 minutes of moderate activity per day. But what does this mean?

Moderate activities include:

  • Taking a nice walk outside - even better with your furry friends

  • Riding your bike or taking a cycling class

  • Participate in a group fitness class

  • Pretty much anything that gets your heart rate higher than resting

Here is a simple workout you can do anywhere. It is especially easy to do anytime over the holidays.

Card Deck Workout

Equipment required:

- deck of cards

- you

Choose five exercises:

- eg) push-ups, squats, leg raises, jumping jacks, lunges

Assign one exercise for each suit:

- Hearts: push-ups

- Diamonds: squats

- Spades: Leg raises

- Clubs: Lunges

- Joker: Jumping jacks

When you are ready, flip the card and perform the exercise that has been assigned to the suit. The number of the card will dictate how many reps you do.
