30 days of giving - Day #7: How to grow your own food
Have you had the incredible pleasure of eating food fresh form the garden? There is nothing like the taste of a fresh-from-the-garden carrot, potato or beat. How about fresh picked lettuce, kale or herbs? Food that you grow in your own backyard is by far better quality nutrition and much more delicious.
"But I don't have the space to grow my own food", you say?
I beg to differ.
Of course it would be great to have a huge garden, or greenhouse, in your back yard where you can go otuside and pick anything you want al year round. For many of us we just don't have this luxury. The great news is there are simple solutions to growing your own food!
It really doesn't take much to grow your own food. It can be as easy as having a small herb garden
in your kitchen. All it takes is a couple of small pots, a counter, or ledge, some organic soil, seeds and a little sunlight. Herbs, such as basil, oregno and mint, will grow quite nicely like this.
You may choose to sprout seeds in a jar. This is a very inexpensive way to get high quality, hassle-free nutrition.
It's as easy as purchasing
some sprouting seeds, like mung beans, soak them in a glass jar with about 2 cups of filtered water for 6-8 hours. Cover them with a mesh lid, drain the water and rinse with new fresh filtered water two times a day until sprouted.
You may also wish to get more creative and grow even more gresh, organic produce by investing a Tower Garden aeroponic growing system.
The Tower Garden is one of my favorite wasy to grow food. It is easy to grow fresh produce indoors and out without much space, time or hassle. My family has three of these and we love to eat the food that comes off them all year round.
Shown in this picture is my niece, Jasmine, who is often found stuffing her face with whatever she
can find growing on the Tower Garden. She is not the only one who does this. Eating fresh produce naked, as I like to call eating food without any additions like dressing, is delicious when it is home grown.
