Halloween Survival Guide
Halloween, or All Soul's Night as it is called in the Pagan tradition, is a time when kids look forward to dressing up in fun and exciting costumes. From goblins, goules and witches to princesses, superheros and rockers kids of all ages love Halloween. However, how are the modern traditions of Halloween, such as the parties and excessive abundance of candy affecting the health of you and your kids?
As you read in the October 22nd blog posting, sugar is one of the most addictive drugs on the market. It has detrimental effects on the body and mind. Therfore, it is essential to restrict your intake of sugar, this includes alcohol, on special occations like Halloween.
How will you survive Halloween? By making a few simple choices:
1) Allow your kids to go trick or treating then trade them their candy for a healthier treat or money.
2) Have a home party so you can make fun, and more healthy, snacks and treats.
3) Make delicious smoothies that fall festive colors, kombucha or other healthy drinks rather than drinking alcohol.
4) Don't buy candy before Halloween night. Too often Halloween candy is all gobbled up before Halloween night.
I know it may sound like these changes are tough; however, better health starts by taking one step at a time and over time they will feel normal. Your health and your loved ones will thank you for it :)
